The Eighth Wonder of the World
Since Libya is a desert The Great Man Made River would change the Libyans’ lives. The coastal water supplies in the country became filthy and mixed with sea water. The existing underground water supply is 40,000 years old and getting this clean fresh water to the cities has been a governmental priority. As per the researchers and specialists, it was decided that it is cheapest to construct a network of pipelines to transport the water from the desert to the coastal cities.
In August 1984, the project was started and, for the huge engineering and technical part of it, there were massive invitations for foreign expertise. In September 1993, phase I was started; it was for a part of the country. Three years later, the other part was completed which was phase II. Phase III is to connect both and in 2006 it was still under construction.
They planned to have very high quality pipes and material in order to deliver the desired quantity and long life. However, the huge project has given Libya very great influence on the global economy which gives Libya a good position.

Libya is building a new source to get water from


Opinion

The project is huge and very useful for the Libyans and their economy. I think the Libyans Gov. has got the right approach.
